Over more than a century, the House has evolved from an elegant neighbourhood bakery into one of Belgium’s most emblematic gastronomic institutions, whose reputation extends far beyond the country’s borders. Throughout its history, the House has marked gastronomy with emblematic creations: the Lingot d’Or (1972), the celebrated Speculoos Macaron (1984), and the award-winning Samba, created by Paul Wittamer and crowned first prize at the Valrhona International Chocolate Competition in 1986. In 1985, Wittamer was also honoured to create a dessert for the visit of Pope John Paul II to Belgium. Wittamer’s reputation extends internationally through a long-standing partnership in Japan, established in 1990, where the House’s creations flourish through a network of 23 boutiques.
