Talapi is committed to ethical trade in Aboriginal art as a means to support economic development in remote communities and is a member of the Indigenous Art Code. Director Kate Podger has worked directly with Aboriginal art centres for over 20 years with 4 years experience as curator of Araluen Arts Centre and was curator of 27th Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award at MAGNT in 2010. We have created a beautiful art space in Todd Mall dedicated to the promotion of Central desert art sourced directly from Aboriginal owned art centres. Talapi hosts regular curated exhibitions that allow art collectors to enjoy the work from established artists and learn about new and upcoming names in Aboriginal art. When choosing a work of art, you want the artist to have concentrated on the traditional sources of knowledge that provide the inspiration for their work. Aboriginal art centres support the artists in many aspects of their daily life and in their custodial duties - allowing artists to remain relatively free from economic pressures that could otherwise restrain their artistic expression. Talapi maintains open and mutually beneficial relationships with the art centres, setting justifiable prices for the artwork and providing the best possible provenance - from documentation systems in which the artists' career is tracked continually over many years.
