TV-am Information

TV-am was the ITV programme company broadcasting on Channel 3 between 6.00am and 9.25am, seven days a week from 1st February 1983 to 31st December 1992. The company was awarded the franchise for 'ITV breakfast-time' by the Independent Broadcasting Authority in December 1980. By law, set out in the programme contract agreement, TV-am's programming consisted primarily of news, current affairs and news features. The company's flagship breakfast programme was called "Good Morning Britain". The lively, friendly style of presentation helped TV-am capture and retain a major share of the early morning television audience across the UK. TV-am became one of the most profitable television companies in the world, per hour of broadcast. Unlike other ITV companies TV-am held a national franchise meaning it could broadcast all over the UK, and not just to one single region. TV-am had many presenters over the years including Sir David Frost, Anne Diamond, Nick Owen, Mike Morris, Jayne Irving, Richard Keys, Sir Michael Parkinson and Lorraine Kelly. This is the official website and archive for TV-am. TV-am is owned and managed by journalist and broadcaster Ian White who has worked hard to preserve as much of the company's history as possible. There is a large collection of material in the archive including documents, letters, promotional items, photographs, press cuttings, listings magazines and contracts.
