Thyme and Place Information

Thyme and Places (now plural!) partners with local businesses to offer plant-based workshops in and around the Salt Lake City area.Open November 2016 - October 2023, Thyme and Place was a brick and mortar plant store in central Salt Lake City. The shop offered plants, pots & potting services, gifts, and hands on workshops in a friendly community-focused space. With the goal of bringing people and plants together, the shop welcomed folks of all ages, colors, genders, abilities, beliefs, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Paid and volunteer staff included STEM interns, college students, adults, and retired professionals, including the owner’s parents. Shop dog CoalBear gained an informal fan club as shop greeter and mascot.Shop reviews averaged 5 stars on Google and Yelp and its Instagram following of 10k was organically built, resulting in actual customers and community members. Thyme and Place was highlighted by Sunset Magazine, Utah Style & Design, Salt Lake UnderGround, CityWeekly, and several media agencies and influencers. In 2023, the community voted us among the top 3 Best of State in CityWeekly’s annual contest.Throughout its life cycle, Thyme and Place helped establish the business district between 300 and 500 East of Salt Lake’s 900 South corridor. It weathered years of next door construction, a global pandemic, earthquakes and civic unrest, recent street demolition and rework, and the owner’s own learning curve and life changes. In the fall of 2023, the owner chose to close the doors of Thyme and Place to make room for a new chapter in her own life.
