The Anna Plowden Trust was established in 1998 to contribute to the development of skills in the conservation of the movable heritage and to help raise awareness to the profession of conservation. It is the only grant giving trust in the UK whose primary focus is supporting student and practising conservators. The Trust was established in memory of Anna Plowden CBE, one of the foremost object conservators of her generation, who died in 1997. It is vital to maintain a highly qualified cadre of conservators for the sake of the extraordinary heritage held in the UK; since its foundation, the Trust has awarded some one hundred and fifty Conservation Bursaries towards course fees on (usually postgraduate) courses. In addition more than one hundred CPD Grants have been awarded to practising conservators to enable them to attend courses and conferences in the UK and overseas. In total the Trust has given grants of over £350,000 – a substantial investment in conservation skills and in the profession. The Trustees include family members and leading members of the conservation profession.
