Founded in 1888, JPS is the preeminent nonprofit publisher of books at the heart of Jewish culture in the English reading world. Our mission is to enhance Jewish literacy through our landmark volumes like THE JPS TANAKH, the most widely read English translation of the Hebrew Bible; Bible commentaries; and hundreds of classic books exploring Jewish history, theology, and contemporary thought. JPS publishes works representing our focus on accessible scholarship across denominations. Our authors, donors, and readers represent the entire spectrum of the Jewish community.
