Established on December 23, 1957, Indonesian Family Planning Association (IPPA) is the oldest NGO that pioneered the family planning movement in Indonesia. The idea of family planning face enormous challenges in the era of the 1950s. Most people tend to see family planning as a mere restriction of pregnancy, something that is considered as a form of deprivation of liberty which they had just enjoyed. On the other hand, during this period the government has yet to realize the benefits of family planning for the improvement of the quality of the nation. After over five decades, IPPA is now in 26 provinces, covering 249 districts / cities in Indonesia. IPPA is among the 184 countries that are members of the IPPF, the international federation of family planning.
