SOS Children’s Villages of Indonesia is a non-profit, non-government, voluntary organisation, committed to the care of children in need. The aim and objective of SOS Children’s Villages of Indonesia is to provide long term family based care to orphaned children and to strengthen disadvantaged families as a preventive measure against abandonment and social neglect of children. Since its inception in the year 1972 SOS Children’s Villages of Indonesia has expanded its services for children in need at a rapid pace. SOS Children’s Villages works in 134 countries and territories to support vulnerable families and help children who have lost parental care or who risk losing parental care. In a world filled with poverty, violence and injustice, children often suffer the most. For more than 65 years, SOS Children's Villages has worked with partners in each community to give families the tools they need to care for their children. When there is no parental care, or it is in the child's best interest to be in a more supportive environment, SOS Children's Villages provides family based alternative care, for instance in an SOS family or foster family. Uniquely, we provide practical support over the long term, so that the child or young person can develop resilient and reliable relationships and can face life’s challenges in the future. In turn, this work strengthens communities and the whole of society. We focus on the care, health, education and general development of each individual. Everything we do is based on the best interests of the child, and every child who participates in an SOS programme has their own development plan. We also partner with other international organisations in speaking out to governments to end violations of children’s rights and to improve living conditions worldwide. We rely on the loyal support of partners and donors around the world to carry out this important work for vulnerable children and families.
