Founded in 1972, ActionAid has been fighting poverty worldwide for over 30 years. In 2013, ActionAid's work reached 15 million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America. At ActionAid we take advantage of over 30 years of knowledge and experience in fighting poverty. We don't impose solutions, but work with communities over many years to strengthen their own efforts to throw off poverty. With more than 2,000 partners worldwide, we work with and support the poorest and most vulnerable people to secure their rights to food, shelter, work, basic healthcare and a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. Fast Company called our platform “the backbone of the anti-Trump opposition,” and we support a wide array of organizations seeking impact, including the Democratic National Committee, Black Lives Matter, Common Cause, United We Dream, AFL-CIO, the Poor People’s Campaign, and hundreds of other progressive organizations in the US and around the world. We’re the UK’s public participation charity. We work towards creating a more vibrant democracy, with people at the heart of decision-making. We know that politics often does not work as it should, leaving people and politicians feeling divided, distrustful and powerless. We demonstrate how democracy can be different. We support people and decision-makers to work together to solve our biggest challenges. Our mission is to develop, support and campaign for new ways of involving people in the decisions that affect their lives.
