Ottawa Wolves RFC Information

The Ottawa Wolves form a Rugby Football Club for men and women in Canada’s National Capital Region. The Club was founded by Carl Pilon and Jay Smidt in 2008 with the mission to promote and encourage participation in rugby among those who have traditionally been under-represented in the game. The team is predominantly gay, but diverse in its make-up, and inclusive of everyone. In 2009, the club joined the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union (EORU) as a developmental team and finished the season as the EORU Division II Champions. That same year, the Wolves became a member of the International Gay Rugby Association and Board. In June 2010, the Wolves travelled to Minneapolis, USA for their first Bingham Cup, one of the world’s largest amateur gay rugby tournaments. There the Wolves competed in the Bingham Spoon division and lost to the Seattle Quake in the final. Most recently, the Wolves claimed the Hoagland Tribute Cup Consolation Prize at the VI Bingham Cup in Machester, England in June 2012. The team finished on an even higher note claiming the coveted Beaver Bowl in Toronto in September 2012. The year 2013 marks the Club’s 5th Anniversary. Join us on the pitch in Chicago this spring, across Eastern Ontario this summer, and Toronto in the fall. We’re always recruiting new players!
