The mission of the Capital Area Food Bank is to feed those who suffer from hunger in the Washington metro area by acquiring food and distributing it through its network of partner agencies; and educating, empowering and enlightening the community about the issues of hunger and nutrition.
Each year the CAFB distributes 42 million pounds of food, including 17 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, to over 500 partner agencies.
Founded in 1929, Catholic Charities is the social ministry outreach of the Archdiocese of Washington, serving Washington, D.C., and the surrounding Maryland counties of Montgomery, Prince George’s, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s. Catholic Charities DC is the most comprehensive social service provider in the D.C. metropolitan region. It is accredited by the Council on Accreditation.
We help more than 203,000 people each year – those who live in poverty, those who are without homes, newcomers, people with developmental disabilities, teen parents, and despairing families who fell into hard times. We pride ourselves on serving anyone who comes to us, regardless of age, race, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, background, belief or circumstance.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is an interfaith, community-based organization that exists to help our neighbors experiencing homelessness and poverty in our nation's capital. We meet the immediate daily needs of the people we serve with food, clothing, and healthcare. We help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling. Each day, SOME is restoring hope and dignity one person at a time. We invite you to join us.
As a faith inspired organization, SOME was founded and built upon the belief in the dignity and respect for all people. We all are worthy of it, and responsible for it. Appreciation for our shared humanity and sense of community has been a central feature of our mission for over 50 years. This is the call to action that SOME represents: to serve, empower and elevate all members of our community.
As champions of our mission, we commit to creating an environment that welcomes and celebrates the diverse array of employees and clients we engage with every day. We strive to be bold in our work, knowing that to drive meaningful change, we must not shy away from discomfort. We reject all forms of individual and systemic discrimination, work actively to eliminate the abuse of privilege and power, and seek justice and equity for all we encounter.
