Since its founding in 2011, the International Art Museum has been a place of peaceful reflection and international understanding. Evolving from its inception as a retrospective of the works of a renowned Chinese artist, the museum has grown to include art from Algeria, Belgium, England, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Russia, Scotland, and the United States. The works of traditional calligraphy, Western oil painting, modern inkbrush landscapes, sculptures and portraits, all work together to showcase the diversity of human experience and perception. Our mission is to engage our local community with the greater world, to offer our space as a place of reflection and exchange, and to provide events and programs of interest to our audience. We offer several programs for both children and adults including regular musical performances, and hope to build our program capacity as the museum continues to grow. We are deeply committed to the communities we serve, and take pride in supporting many local organizations. Since 2013, IAMA has been a strong supporter of the SF Annual Teachers and Principals Award and has been actively involved with its honorees. We hosted the 83rd Annual Meeting of the United States Mayors Conference in June 2015, and gave a musical reception and guided tours for mayors and families. We are also pleased to continue our involvement in Asian Heritage Week at Civic Center Plaza, and this year will be the first time IAMA is participating in the Nihonmachi Street Fair which is the largest celebration of Asian heritage in the City. The museum provides in-kind donations of merchandise from our museum store to community agencies to support their fund raising events. Recipients have been San Francisco Pacific Academy, the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund for Low-income Women, La Clinica, several local PTAs, and San Francisco Urban Solution.
