FIGOURA LTD Information

Figoura – School of Greek Dance is a specialist dance school dedicated to the teaching, preservation, and promotion of the dance traditions of Greece, Cyprus, and the wider Greek world. Founded in 2013, Figoura was established with a vision of combining authentic dance instruction with cultural education. We believe that dance is more than movement; it is a living expression of history, music, identity, community, and tradition. Our programmes welcome students of all abilities, from complete beginners to experienced dancers seeking deeper cultural and regional knowledge. Through the Figoura CORE Dance Programme and Regional Studies pathways, students develop both practical dance skills and an understanding of the regions, customs, music, and traditions that shape each dance. The school's curriculum explores traditions from mainland Greece, the islands, Cyprus, Pontos, Cappadocia, Asia Minor, Constantinople, Eastern Rumelia, and other historic Hellenic communities. By understanding where dances come from and what they represent, students gain a richer appreciation of the cultures that preserve them. Beyond classes, Figoura offers workshops, performances, educational resources, cultural events, recognition pathways, and support for International Dance Council (CID) certification. Students can also participate in rehearsal programmes, community presentations, cultural trips, and performance groups. Community lies at the heart of everything we do. Through shared learning, social activities, cultural experiences, and student networks, we create an environment where people can build confidence, develop skills, stay active, and form meaningful connections. Figoura is also recognised for establishing the UK's first Greek Folk Dance Festival and continues to develop innovative educational resources that promote a deeper understanding of Greek dance and culture. Learn the Dances. Discover the Regions. Understand the Traditions.
