Wow, here I am making good use of my Adobe cloud Portfolio. But where to begin. Well, I could say it all started with a piece of paper and some crayons at the kitchen table aged two. But that would be going too far back in the timeline. Let's start at my time at the Yellow Pages, hold on - you're kidding, that brings back memories of rub down letters, yellow pieces of paper and bromide cameras. No. let's start at WEA, which stands for Warner | Electra | Atlantic. Record cover design, this is any designers holy grail. I wasn't just doing cover design, there were posters to do, POS material but heck I met the big names. INXS, Cold Chisel, Mental As Anything and those others who tried but fell on the tracks of failure. Was it a dream job, you bet it was, imagine as part of your job description - you must go and watch bands play. It had it's challenges though, designing for bands was a big event. To get an approval the band must like it, the bands girlfriends must love it, the record executives must believe in it which sometimes create a cover which could have been created by Picasso. Suffice to stay this was the most creative and best 3 years of my life! After leaving I went freelance after 3 months of travel. If you really want to get creative, go see the world. Upon my return I was suddenly the go to person in Australia for record and CD cover design. Working for all the majors, Virgin Records, EMI, ABC, Festival and a lot of individual artists trying to make a go of the music industry. I pretty much built a business around it but eventually diversified into packaging design and branding. My claim to fame was as the designer of the ARIA Award, you can see my name as they hold up the award using a triumphet yes, when they win! Which leads me to writing on this page.
