The Oxygen Advantage® method was developed by breathing educator Patrick McKeown after overcoming his own lifelong asthma through simple breathing techniques based on the Buteyko method. What began as a personal journey soon evolved into a practical system now used by athletes, clinicians, and everyday people in more than 50 countries.
At its core, Oxygen Advantage is about restoring functional breathing.
Most people breathe too much, too fast, and often through the mouth. This over-breathing reduces carbon dioxide in the blood, which limits how efficiently oxygen is delivered to the cells. The method combines three key elements: functional breathing for health, breathing for mental focus and nervous system regulation, and breathing for physical performance. Through nasal breathing, reduced breathing exercises, and breath-hold training, the body adapts to use oxygen more effectively while building tolerance to breathlessness.
