BlocQ is a US–Japan startup on a mission to enable the world's first practical quantum error correction (QEC) applications. Even as hardware scales, there remains a substantial gap between the resources practical applications require and what near-term fault-tolerant machines will realistically offer. Rather than relying on hardware scaling alone, we believe the decisive lever is at the software and architecture level: how logical circuits and error-correcting codes are jointly designed and compiled onto the available hardware. BlocQ focuses on the co-design of logical circuits and error-correcting codes, together with a dedicated compilation stack, to make practical FTQC feasible on near-term fault-tolerant machines. By building on high-rate qLDPC codes rather than the surface code, and by tailoring the architecture to the structure of target algorithms, we aim to close this gap from the software side and bring useful fault-tolerant computation forward in time. We operate across two hubs in the US and Japan, and have raised over $10M to date. Our backers include leading VCs and UC Berkeley SkyDeck, UC Berkeley's accelerator, along with government grants. Our small, elite team includes international physics olympiad medalists and quantum scientists who have worked at the global forefront of the field.
