Anfpp Information

The ANFPP aims to improve the health wellbeing and self-sufficiency of young mothers and their children. The objectives of the ANFPP are to improve: outcomes in pregnancy by improving women's pre-natal health each child's health and development by helping mothers to provide more skilled parenting parental life-course by helping mothers to plan future pregnancies, complete their education and find work. The ANFPP is one of a number of maternal and child health services that the client will access during pregnancy and in the first two years of the child's life. It is additional to, and does not replace, the maternal and child health services operating in the local area. The ANFPP is a primary health care program that works in collaboration with Maternal and Child Health services. As part of the program the Nurse Home Visitor is partner, trainer and supporter that helps improve a mother's health and the health of their baby. The distinguishing characteristics of this program compared to others include: pre-natal to 24-months postpartum (Pregnancy, Infant and Toddlerhood) structured home visits visit-by-visit guidelines well-specified and clearly detailed curriculum for the visits monitoring and strong quality improvement focus intensive core curriculum training of all staff ongoing reflective practice and professional development the inclusion of an indigenous role of Family Partnership Worker and Aboriginal Community Worker as an integral member of the team to promote trust and respect between the clients and their family, the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, the wider community, the ANFPP team and health providers.
