The Story of 3SqMeals: The Power of Listening: In February 2011, I received a priceless gift from a patient at my orthopedic practice. The patient who I don't quite remember anymore, encouraged me to pen the words of encouragement that I often dispense at the time of consultation. I took the advice to heart and wrote my thoughts three times a day via Twitter @3Sqmeals, maximizing all of the allowed 140 characters (now 280). Since this humble beginning, to date, I have written close to three thousand original messages of encouragement, hope and optimism - many of them penned during periods of deep thoughts in the middle of the night, often influenced by the encounters of the preceding days. This gift has not only served as a personal therapy, but it has also been the best form of treatment I ever have to dispense directly to my patients, and remotely to many others all over the world. It has had an impact well beyond my imagination. What's the essence of this story? To those in the profession, it stresses the power of listening to your patients. Most times they are right! The effects of uttered words may last beyond the day your first heard it, it may last a lifetime. 3sqMeals started as a one-person's (a small town doc, a.k.a. Dr. O') quest to spread positive messages all over the world. Aware of the power of words, filled with a burning desire to offer a book compilation that will go across the world, at the prompt of one of his patients, the thought of sharing his thoughts on Twitter - @3SqMeals - came to mind. That was in February 2011. The goal was simple - to offer words of encouragement, optimism, hope and wisdom to across the world, three times daily, morning, noon and night. The expectation was simple - to have an impact on at least one person daily. Many years later, Dr. O' continues to share his words of encouragement and optimism via @3Sqmeals on social media, published books and other media - postcards, posters, etc.
