ZotBins is system of sensor enabled waste bins that includes a variety of applications to better inform all actors in the Municipal Waste Stream System and help close the loop for a sustainable society. Through IoT, ZotBins is able to use waste data to encourage zero waste practices from a behavioral approach while also demonstrating use of quantifiable data to improve waste management systems holistically. This system has been used by over 1000 students at UCI and collected waste data in food courts to help find useful waste related insights.
