Waltja Information

Waltja is an incorporated Aboriginal Association based in Alice Springs. Our aim is to provide support services to families on remote communities throughout the region. Our objectives include the addressing of social, emotional and well being issues including substance abuse, child protection, violence, health and safety. We seek to assist the communities in developing a capacity for self-management and self-determination. Waltja's Publicaitons Unit produces a 36-page colour magazine The "Family News", which the book is distributed free of charge to all communities in our region. The "Family News" not only gives the communities an outlet for their news and a voice for their concerns; it provides a means of effectively disseminating vital information on the issues affecting community life. Naturally funding for a project like this is always a problem. The publicaitons unit produces promotional materials for the other projects at Waltja like beanies, water bottles, stickers, posters, booklets and printing reports to pull in the funding to keep the publication of the Family News going. Another way to keep the publicaitons unit up and running we encourage interested individuals and groups to subscribe to the "Family News". This will help us to continue to produce a quality product, and keep our subscribers in touch with the grass root concerns of community families.
