Verdel Instruments, a spin out company from the University of Warwick, has developed an innovative technique called two dimensional mass spectrometry (2DMS). This allows fragmentation of a wide range of molecules while simultaneously maintaining correlation between each fragment and its precursor to significantly improve structural elucidation. The technology is now available on routine, bench-top mass spectrometers and will be fast enough to provide these comprehensive fragmentation datasets in a few seconds.
