Uluu is Australian start-up producing a fermented plastic alternative from farmed seaweed & seawater to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and end plastic pollution. Unlike fossil plastics, Uluu materials are natural PHAs. They are non-toxic, microplastic-free, home compostable and marine biodegradable, and can also be designed for reuse, recycling and controlled composting pathways. Uluu has achieved OK compost HOME and OK biodegradable MARINE certification from TUV Austria, based on independent testing. Uluu's deeper innovation is its seaweed-and-saltwater biomanufacturing platform. Seaweed is a scalable, renewable feedstock that does not compete with food, arable land or freshwater. Our saltwater fermentation process reduces contamination risk, avoids energy-intensive sterilisation and enables water-based downstream recovery, creating a credible pathway to cost competitiveness with conventional plastics.
