Transition Coalition Information

The Transition Coalition is creating a national forum for dissemination, exchange of information, joint problem-solving, and collaborative content development for secondary special education and transition professional development. The National Transition Outreach Project builds upon strategies that the Midwest stakeholders identified as most helpful in building state capacity for professional development. The strategies used by the National Transition Outreach Project include: Collaborating with the six Regional Resource Centers for Special Education (RRCs) and the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) to convene regional State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Institutes of Higher Education (IHEs) interested in and responsible for transition professional development. Regional partners will be supported to generate resources through shared problem-solving related to professional development for transition and secondary school reform. Assisting participating partners in identifying policy barriers and developing solutions (e.g., professional development, resources, and state policies) that support best practices in transition services as well as professional development for transition. Stimulating grassroots participation in developing and disseminating content and resources related to professional development. Project funds will support individuals and groups who wish to share their transition expertise in contributing ideas and solutions. A consortium of jurors will review contributed content to insure its validity to practice and relevance to consumers. These grassroots efforts will be facilitated using online resources and tools for collaboration. Expanding flexible, interactive, and immediately accessible online training modules and resources that apply directly to transition policies and practices.
