“Do you hate to floss?” This is a common question in dental offices. Lisa Guenst worked as a dental hygienist in several dentists’ offices after she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with her degree in Dental Hygiene. Throughout Lisa’s 25 year career she always saw the same problem, patients with inflamed and bleeding gums, termed gingivitis. She knew gum disease could be prevented with good oral hygiene but patients hate to string floss. Gingivitis can cause serious problems like permanent bone loss, and while Lisa understood the severity of this situation, her patients often did not. Toothbrushing alone cannot reach the areas between the teeth where gum disease often starts. The American Dental Association recommends brushing twice a day and cleaning with an interdental (between teeth) cleaner once a day. The Associated Press put out an article in 2016 questioning the medical benefits of string flossing; medical-benefits-dental-floss-unproven. Many people find string floss difficult to use or use it incorrectly. Water flossers are a better option, but come with a host of user complaints: the need for an electric outlet or batteries, reservoirs to refill, splatter around the sink, and use of precious counter space. Water flossers end up under the bathroom sink unused. Lisa understood that patients needed a simpler option in order to be more compliant. Hence, ToothShower – easy to use and installed in the shower thus eliminating all of the counter- top water flosser complaints. Many reviews are pouring in on the ToothShower website, www.toothshower.com that state ToothShower is an easy and enjoyable way to clean your teeth and gums. After working with a team of local engineers, her design idea was perfected. She applied for patents and raised capital through Kickstarter and Indiegogo. ToothShower also won funds through local business competitions and a dedicated investor. Our shower flosser is fighting gum disease one shower at a time!
