The Salvation Army began serving Wake County in 1887 as a prison ministry to 500 inmates. As the community has grown over the last 127 years, so have we, providing services to those in need. We provide food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, and many more services to assist those in need. The Salvation Army is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Our message is based on the Bible. Our ministry is motivated by the love of God. Our mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Through collaborative programs and community action, we serve over 117,000 residents in Wake County through our crisis programs, women and children's shelter, community center and outreach programs for youth and victims of human trafficking.
