The Group of Eight Information

The Group of Eight (Go8) comprises Australia’s world-leading research-intensive universities – the University of Melbourne, the Australian National University, the University of Sydney, the University of Queensland, the University of Western Australia, the University of Adelaide, Monash University and UNSW Sydney. All are in the top 100 of the 2024 QS World University Rankings. The Go8 is focused on, and is a leader in, influencing the development and delivery of long-term sustainable national higher education and research policy, and in developing elite international alliances and research partnerships. The Go8 Universities undertake 70 percent of university based research in Australia, educates more than one quarter of all university students in Australia, including 160,000 international students and graduates 120,000 quality graduates each year. The Go8’s Chair is Professor Mark Scott AO, Vice-Chancellor and President, The University of Sydney. The Go8’s Chief Executive is Ms Vicki Thomson. The Go8 Directorate is located in Canberra, Australia’s national capital.
