Teach For China Information

Teach For China is a Chinese non-profit organization, dedicated to providing a quality education to all Chinese children, and to be a platform for future leaders of US and China. In China today, where a child is born determines his or her educational prospects, and, therefore, life opportunities. While 80% of students from China's major cities attend college, less than 5% of students from poor rural areas go on to higher education. To address the problem, Teach For China recruits and places talented, motivated graduates, called Fellows, in low-income classrooms in China. Fellows spend two years working relentlessly in their classrooms to equip students with academic and life skills. They leave their Fellowship not only with invaluable professional and leadership experience but with a deep understanding of and commitment to solving China's educational challenges. As alumni, they will form a force for change working to create an education system that equips all of China's children for success. Since Teach For China placed its first cohort of 20 Fellows in 2009, the program has grown to include over 300 Fellows currently serving in over 80 schools, impacting over 40,000 students in rural Yunnan and Guangdong in 2013. In Fall 2014, Teach For China will have over 500 teachers. Teach For China is headquartered in Beijing, with regional offices in Yunnan, Guangdong, New York and San Francisco. The organization is officially registered in Beijing as a foundation organization and in the US as a 501(c)3 organization. Teach For China has the support of both local Chinese partners and global networks, including Teach For All and Wendy Kopp, founder of Teach For America and co-chair of Teach For All.
