Talu Ventures was formed by its three partners in late 2012 and assumed responsibility for management of the $153.5m CMVT4 Venture Fund from January 1st, 2013. Talu was issued its independent Australian Financial Services License in February 2013 (AFS License No. 433153). Far from being a new entrant to the Venture and technology landscape, Talu is a generational evolution of Australian pioneering Venture Fund Manager, CM Capital. With the interests of investors foremost, Talu captures the core executive investment leadership from CM in order to optimise investment outcomes from the existing portfolio of assets and upon which to build a long term successful Venture Fund manager in Australia. The Talu investment leaders have worked together for seven years as venture investors across 2 institutional funds, with founders Andy Jane and Mark Gill having been partners responsible for Life Sciences and IT/Media practices respectively at CM Capital during the life of the more recent CMVT4 fund. The two are responsible for the majority of assets in the portfolio. Jonathan Whitehouse, CFO, rounds out the team with eleven years in private equity, the last five+ of those with Mark and Andy at CM. The teams of Talu and CM continue to enjoy strong inter-working relationships across the funds they manage, as they did when they were one team. The extended team of experts and advisors that have been involved at CM over many years, and have been so influential to the investment portfolio, remain involved with Talu Ventures on an ongoing basis. The transition from CM Capital to Talu in CMVT4 was undertaken quickly, cleanly, and seamlessly with the commitment to the change of all parties involved. The establishment and appointment of Talu Ventures enjoyed 100% voting support from the A-list Institutional Investors making up the total unitholder group in CMVT4.
