Blackerby Violin Shop has been the leading resource in Austin, Texas for string professionals and students since it first opened its doors in 1995. The shop was founded by two string teachers who realized their students had no local source for high quality, affordable student instruments; from the beginning, the shop has aspired to provide everything a string player might need under one roof, from instruments and bows to sheet music and the full range of accessories. Now owned and operated by Rachel and Dianne Goggan, Blackerby Violin Shop has expanded their offerings to include a selection of classical guitars and accessories, as well as bowed string instruments suitable for professional string players. Blackerby is the newest member of the Goggan musical family--a tradition that began when Thomas Goggan opened the first music store in Texas in 1866. The house of Thomas Goggan Bros. began in Galveston and then grew to offer "all things musical" throughout the state.

The String Project is a full service string shop supplying instruments, bows, cases, accessories, and sheet music for all players from beginner to professional. Our services in our retail location include repair of both instruments and bows as well as lessons. The String Project was founded in 1988 by Karen Summerville, a violin and viola teacher who found it difficult to find quality instruments and accessories for her students. Since then The String Project has earned a reputation for our expertise and honesty. Customers from all over the Chicago area and beyond have placed their trust in our reputation.
