Spectives was an online visual news reader. Started by Rutger van Waveren, the company launched in early 2008 and was sold to Sanoma Media the same year. Spectives failed spectacularly and shut down at the beginning of 2010, just before the introduction of the iPad and the rise of visual news curation (Flipboard, Zite, etc).
