Solata technologies were developed by leaders in content marketing, engagement and open source technology. The Solata Media Publishing portal is based on the Press2Web platform first built by Selling Communications Inc. in the 1990s to support its how-to and reference publishing model. It has since been completely upgraded for the mobile world in a partnership with Liberated, a development company in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to manage all aspects of online publishing, from content, subscriptions and advertising management to buyer's guides, blogs and event registration. Chief developers are Rick Devaux and David Poitier, each of whom has over a dozen years of experience in web publishing technology. The Solata Engagement Portal was developed by Engagement Enterprises, the successor to Selling Communications Inc., to help incentive and recognition companies seeking to bring enterprise-wide engagement solutions to their clients. Engagement Enterprises has since licensed the technology to Zone Media, whose principal, Randall Funke, serves as chief architect. His ultimate goal is to bring the engagement portal technology to the Drupal community so that thousands of companies can benefit from the ability to better engage people and measure performance. Funke has over six years of experience developing portals for engagement.
