The Balearic Islands Coastal Observing System (SOCIB) is part of the Map of Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS) as a node of the distributed ICTS for Marine Observation (IDISOM). It was created by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands (CAIB), with the later incorporation of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Located in Parc Bit, Palma, it has a multidisciplinary team of around 45 people working towards a shared goal: advancing knowledge, understanding, and sustainable management of the global ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. In this context, the mission of SOCIB is to operate an observing and forecasting system in the Western Mediterranean and provide data, facilities, services, and digital tools to advance understanding of the ocean and transfer knowledge to society.
