Slagmark ('battlefield') is a peer-reviewed Danish journal for the history of ideas. Founded in 1983, the journal has its background in the environment around the History of Ideas at Aarhus University (AU), which has been taught as an independent subject there since 1967. Slagmark is still located at the Department of Philosophy and the History of Ideas at AU, but is independent of institutional interests. Today, the journal is published by Forlaget Slagmark which also publishes monographs, anthologies, collections of primary texts, and translations. Although many of the journal's volumes are about the history of Western ideas, we are also interested in the transcending properties of ideas, artefacts, and people. We are just as interested in explaining new political and cultural trends as in shining new light on the classics of Western intellectual history. We chose the themes for each volume based on our professional and intellectual curiosity and seek to support the authors in their attempts to provide daring and well-documented interpretations of texts, ideas, phenomena, and events. The main content of each volume is the thematic articles provided by leading researchers at home and abroad. Each volume also contains a section of critical and in-depth review essays on new literature and trends in intellectual history. The journal adresses itself to intellectual historians, philosophers, cultural historians, sociologists, political scientists, literary historians, and others interested in thinking with history. The articles in Slagmark are submitted to blind peer-review, and Slagmark is registered with the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science as a Class-1 journal. We publish two volumes per year.
