Founded in 1987, the San Jose Conservation Corps and Charter School (SJCC&CS) has provided more than 18,500 "at-risk" disadvantaged, young men and women (mostly minority) with the academic education, hands-on learning, and development of basic skills such as leadership, communication, computer literacy, and employment training needed to enter and succeed in the Silicon Valley skilled workforce. The SJCC&CS offers secondary education courses through it's full-time charter high school, and vocational education and job training through itsEnvironment ProgramandRecycling Departments. Another program,YouthBuild San Jose,combines the mandatory academics with paid on-site job training in the high demand, high wage construction trades.
