Our story begins in 1895, when the Sunset Telephone Company connected Merced to Mariposa, establishing the Mariposa Telephone Exchange. This marked the foundation of what would eventually become The Mariposa County Telephone Company, Inc. In 1908, the Raymond Telephone Company was founded, and in 1953, it was renamed Sierra Telephone Company, Inc. The pivotal moment came in 1984, when the two companies merged, with Sierra Telephone Company, Inc. becoming the cornerstone of Sierra Tel, a family-owned business that continues to thrive.
