We are a not-for-profit organisation pioneering the social application of bibliotherapy (or story therapy) in Australia to help fight the loneliness epidemic, improve mental health and strengthen our communities. People have always shared stories. It is part of what makes us human. Shared Reading NSW believes that in the simple act of sharing stories aloud, it is possible to change people’s lives. Using the established theory and techniques of social bibliotherapy, or story therapy, we run unique social groups and programs that bring people together to read and share great stories in a way that helps them find meaning and joy in life, regardless of their circumstance. We also provide Shared Reading Facilitator training for therpaists, support workers, individuals and organisations so that the benefits of Shared Reading can be experienced by more and more people. We believe in the power of storytelling to connect us all, to help us heal, and to enrich the human spirit.
