Since its founding in 1958 Sequoyah has been committed to education that "challenges the mind, nurtures the heart, and celebrates human dignity." Today approximately 180 students are grouped into seven multi-age classes spanning kindergarten through eighth grade. Sequoyah graduates are recognized for their resourcefulness, initiative and critical thinking. The school community honors and reflects the ethnic, cultural and economic diversity of Southern California. The school was named after the distinguished Cherokee leader who developed a syllabary for his people's unwritten language. The naming of the school reflects the love of books and reading that is at the heart of Sequoyah's education.
