Oakwood School was founded in 1951 by parents who wanted to provide their children with an educational experience rich in the arts, sciences, and humanities, and challenging to their creative, intellectual, and physical capacities. They wanted a learning community that would foster independence of thought, intellectual integrity, sensitivity to the needs of others, and prepare students for participation in a democratic society.
Oakwood remains committed to the founders’ goals. We believe that a school environment should foster individual growth and an active communal life, should hold intellectual attainment in high regard, and should encourage young people to exercise increasing autonomy and responsibility—for one another, for the environment, and for the larger world.
We believe that a school best prepares children for the future by focusing on the quality of their experiences in the present. We believe that teachers and learners should inspire one another, and that school must be rewarding in its own right. And we believe that young people’s feelings and thoughts should be accorded respect and dignity.

At the Lycée Français de San Francisco, a child who starts in preschool might spend recess switching between French and English without thinking twice. By high school, that same student is navigating the French Baccalaureate or the International Baccalaureate, thinking across cultures, and graduating with dual diplomas recognized by top universities worldwide.
That journey can begin at three different moments: in preschool, where language immersion starts naturally; in middle school, or in high school — both through the IB-powered International Track, which requires no prior French to enroll.
Founded in 1967 and spread across three campuses in San Francisco and Marin, the Lycée serves preschool through Grade 12 with two distinct tracks: the rigorous French national curriculum, and the International Track powered by the IB for students joining in middle or high school.
Parents who chose the school for its academic reputation consistently say what keeps them is something harder to quantify: a genuinely tight-knit community where students are known, challenged, and cared for. Rooted in curiosity, empathy, and respect, it's a place where multilingualism isn't a feature — it's simply how life works.
Whether your child is starting at three or transferring at thirteen, the Lycée is worth a closer look.
