Founded in 1954, Enable has been supporting people to live independently in the community of their choice for more than 7 decades.
Employing 3,500 staff, serving 15,000 people and with 12,000 members and supporters, Enable is one of the largest non-public sector employers in Scotland.
We work for an equal society where everyone has the right to live, work and participate in the communities of their choice.
Our work means the people of Scotland can count on social work, social care and children and young people services being provided by a trusted, skilled, confident and valued workforce.
We protect the public by registering social workers, social care and children and young people workers, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct we can investigate and take action.
We independently regulate care services for people of all ages in Scotland. We register, inspect and grade services, deal with complaints, carry out enforcement action where necessary and help services improve. We also inspect all Scottish local authority social work services, including criminal justice social work.
We carry out joint inspections too, with colleagues from other organisations such as police, health boards and education, to check how successful services are at working together to deliver the best support for adults and children.
We inspect the quality of care, promote best practice, identify ways that services can improve and support innovation.
In everything we do, our aim is to improve people’s experience of care, focusing on what can improve their lives and not simply on the services provided to them.
