SEGA Studios Australia, formerly known as The Creative Assembly Australia, was founded in July 2002. The studio was initially involved in the development of the 2002 PC title ROME: TOTAL WAR™ and gradually expanded to a team of around 70 employees. The team went on to produce MEDIEVAL II: TOTAL WAR™ , which topped the UK charts in 2006 and won a number of awards (including IGN™ Best Strategy Game of E3 2006), and the expansion pack MEDIEVAL II: TOTAL WAR KINGDOMS™. Following the release of MEDIEVAL II: TOTAL WAR KINGDOMS, the studio focused on enhancing its technological capabilities across newly emerging hardware platforms. Releasing titles for SONY PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the Nintendo DS has given the studio the tools and knowledge it needs to take on its latest multiplatform title, London 2012: The Official Videogame of the Olympic Games, currently in development. The studio has continued to strengthen its team with a view to building a studio able to explore and develop games of various genres. In December 2010 the studio rebranded to become SEGA Studios Australia.
