Science Discovery Information

Formed in 1994 by Michael di Milo, Science Discovery began as a one-person recycling education business operating from a home office and garage. The main focus of the company was providing classroom programs about recycling and composting to local schools. As demand for recycling education grew, two additional teacher/presenters joined Science Discovery. A few years later, Science Discovery expanded its focus to develop and implement water education programs. By 1998, Science Discovery provided water education materials to cities and water districts throughout the Central Coast of California. With interest in water conservation and recycling education growing, Science Discovery further expanded to meet the demand from cities, county government, and water purveyors. In 2005 Science Discovery staff developed unique, hands-on stormwater pollution prevention materials to help agencies meet their best management practices. A significant transition to virtual education took place in 2020, with the development of in-house studio facilities for school and public programs. Science Discovery currently operates from a 2,400 sq. ft. studio, shop, and office in San Luis Obispo, California. A staff of four educators and various skilled contractors combine to provide over 1,500 education programs each year. To connect people of all ages with the environment in which they live. To design education programs that deliver inspiring messages about our environment while providing thoughtful actions that can positively impact our world.
