GrowNYC is a hands-on non-profit with a mission to empower all New Yorkers with equitable access to fresh, locally grown food and neighborhood green spaces, reduce waste, and care for the environment. GrowNYC was originally created in 1970 as the Council on the Environment of New York City (CENYC). Born out of the spirit of the first Earth Day, CENYC was initially a policy-based organization, writing comprehensive reports about quality of life issues like air quality, traffic, and noise. Today, we serve over 3 million New Yorkers annually through a robust network of sustainability programs and resources. Our programs focus our efforts on four key areas: Food Access & Agriculture, Green Spaces, Zero Waste and Education. Since 1970, GrowNYC has been rolling up its sleeves alongside NYC residents to: - Provide access to healthy, fresh, local food for all New Yorkers -Grow and maintain vibrant green spaces and community gardens. -Help New Yorkers recycle more and reduce waste. -Create the next generation of environmental leaders through hands-on education programs.

Vertical Harvest is an urban farming company turning cities into fertile grounds for growth, using tech-enabled agriculture to reinvent the future of food. We are hell-bent on bringing you the freshest, healthiest and most flavorful produce – grown hydroponically, all year round. It's why we root our farms within cities, create customized employment for people with disabilities and are farm to fork around the clock. City by city and block by block, we are sprouting up – working with and within communities to sow the seeds of abundant possibility. And we welcome a crew of rebels, fanatics, trailblazers, and visionaries, to champion more climate resilient food systems, economic inclusivity and nutrition security. Because together, radical ideas become reality. We’re not just harvesting the freshest food possible – as a social enterprise we’re making it a fierce force for good, and radically delicious, at the same time. City Slicker Farms is a food justice organization that partners with diverse communities throughout the East Bay to create a more equitable food system.Our mission is to increase wellness and build community through equitable access to healthy food, thriving gardens, and urban green space. Through Backyard Gardens, we have built over 500 planter boxes and helped hundreds of members grow their own food. Participants receive two years of direct mentorship from our seasoned farmers and a lifetime supply of free soil, seeds, and plant starts. Our West Oakland Farm Park is a working educational farm with a greenhouse, chickens, bees, and a community garden. It also includes a kitchen, playground, and beautiful outdoor spaces. The Farm Park hosts community events and is a rich environment for connecting with neighbors and learning about food sovereignty and justice. Schools and community groups can visit the Farm Park as part of our Food and Farm Skill Share. We also offer gardening internships and host cooking classes, workshops, and potlucks that share the community's vibrant culinary traditions. At the Farm Park, we grow thousands of pounds of food each year for the community as part of our Farm To Fridge Produce Share. In partnership with the Town Fridge collective, we stock a fridge with veggies we've grown on the farm. The produce is free for all, but but we grow it with our low and fixed income, BIPOC, and unhoused community members in mind.
