Camp Read-a-Rama is a research-based non-profit leveraging children’s and young adult literature to deliver 100% engagement programming that eliminates literacy gaps and fosters social-emotional growth. We serve communities through direct local programming—including Summer Camps, Story Times, Club Read-a-Rama, and Camp-as-a-Service—alongside nationwide online educator training and virtual Counselor-in-Training (CIT) development for youth ages 14–17. Through structured Learning Pathways and a robust Resource Library, we equip educators, teen leaders, and organizations with the tools to build passionate, lifelong readers. Our Story Founded in 2009 at Clemson University by Dr. Michelle H. Martin and Dr. Rachelle D. Washington, Read-a-Rama has spent over 15 years expanding its literature-based model. From our early development at the University of South Carolina to our home in Washington State since 2017—following Dr. Martin’s appointment at the University of Washington—we train adults and youth nationwide to cultivate cultural competence and bring high-impact literacy programs to children of all backgrounds.
