Radio Caley Information

Radio Caley had been long in the pipeline before its eventual launch in February 2009. Four years of hard work by previous Students’ Association Executive Commitees produced a substantial budget and fantastic support for us in our launch year. In our first semester we were a pre-record station, and managed to overcome all the mind-numbing technical difficulties that come with this – recording, editing, uploading to the server!!! With this in mind, Radio Caley’s committee pushed towards going LIVE for the new academic year – and based on the success of last year’s broadcasting – our wish was granted and going live has proved a massive success. Our listening figures have increased significantly and consistently and the station has a much stronger presence around Glasgow Caledonian University. The station’s output is as varied as GCU’s student population – we have shows to suit anyone and everyone – a breakfast show at midday, chat shows, a world music show, uber cool muso shows, and our new recruits from our Freshers’ Volunteer Drive has produced a weekly trance session, a news team and even talk of a radio drama, amongst others. Radio Caley is working this year to continue to up our listenership by working towards playing out live in our affiliated gym and in social areas of the University. The station is also considering potential sponsorship deals to make all of our aims possible financially, and have increased our committee to include a sponsorship and fundraising coordinator. With some very successful events under our belt and over eighty new volunteers signing up at Freshers’ Week, it seems that Radio Caley will continue to go from strength to strength.
