Queens High School for the Sciences Information

Founded in 2002, the school is one of the nine specialized high schools in New York City, which admits students in NYC that based on scores attained on the Specialized High School Admissions Examination. QHSSYC has been named one of the top 100 students in the country by the US News and World Report for the last five years. In 2014, the school was ranked #3 in New York State and #25 in the country. The philosophy of the school recognizes that students are often more successful in college and careers when nurtured in a small learning community based on high academic expectations. In keeping with this philosophy, the school accepts approximately one hundred students every year. Our student body presents a global community. Our students come from different countries around the world: Bangladesh, Korea, China, Pakistan, Poland, Nigeria, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Germany, England and India. Most of our students are bilingual, and some even trilingual. All our students take honors courses. We offer a variety of Advanced Placement courses including: AP English Literature, AP US History and Government, AP Calculus, AP Biology, AP Chemistry and AP Physics. Additionally, students have the opportunity to enroll in College Now courses. Courses currently offered are Psychology, Sociology, Computer and Computer Science. We are a member of the National Consortium of Specialized Schools for Science, Mathematics and Technology. We offer Math and Science research courses to strengthen students' college and career readiness.
