Formerly Qtel. Qtel is the flagship operator of the Qtel Group, one of the world’s leading communications companies. Qtel is the largest operator in Qatar, offering mobile, broadband, digital and fibre services, and is headquartered in Doha. The Qtel Chairman is H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani, the CEO is Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, and its COO is Waleed Al-Sayed. Qtel’s history dates back to 1949, when the first 50-line telephone exchange was created in Doha, and the company was established in 1987. It quickly expanded, introducing a number of major new technologies to Qatar. Qtel launched its Mobile Money service and upgraded its 3G network in 2010. In 2012, Qtel continued its roll-out of the nationwide Qtel Fibre network, offering packages with download speeds of up to 100 Mbps and HDTV. Qtel also began the trial phase of its 4G LTE mobile broadband service. Qtel has enjoyed strong growth even during challenging economic conditions. Total consolidated customers have grown from 1.9 million in 2008 to 2.5 million in 2012 in Qatar. Revenue increased to QAR 4.6 billion by Q3, 2012. EBITDA performance increased to QAR 2.5 billion in the same period. Qtel is firm supporter of Qatarization and aims to be an employer of choice in Qatar. Qtel has a long history of supporting causes as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility. In 2011, it donated QR 27 million to activities and initiatives. The company holds a number of major awards.
