More than 40 years ago the inspiration for Make-A-Wish began with one little boy’s wish to be a police officer. Today, together with our volunteers, donors, staff and supporters, Make-A-Wish has granted more than 500,000 life-changing wishes and transformed countless lives worldwide. There is nothing more powerful than making a child’s wish come true. And at Make-A-Wish, we will stop at nothing to ensure every eligible child received a life-changing wish. We believe – and research shows – that a wish gives kids the resilience, courage and strength they need to fight their critical illnesses. Dream Foundation is the only national organization that serves end-of-life Dreams for terminally-ill adults and their families, including veterans. Dreams come in many forms, but all of them provide inspiration, comfort and closure. We arrange family reunions, special trips that provide a much-needed respite or meetings with personal heroes. Veterans often want to reconnect with aspects of their previous military lives or visit monuments and memorials that have a special significance for them. We also deliver bouquets and gifts to people in need of comfort and cheer in Santa Barbara County through our Flower Empower program. Everything that we do is made possible by a dedicated community of individual supporters, volunteers, health care organizations, hospices and corporate sponsors who help in many ways, from donating funds to running fundraisers, arranging workplace giving, assembling and delivering bouquets or offering their professional photography skills. Each has played a crucial role in the 33,000 Dreams fulfilled over the past twenty-seven years. Founded by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson in 1985, The Rainbow Connection makes dreams come true for Michigan children with life threatening illnesses. From something as simple as a shopping spree or as unique as meeting the President of the United States or a glorious trip to Disney World, The Rainbow Connection has fulfilled the dreams of over 3400 Michigan children. The Rainbow Connection also provides emergency support services, information and referral, special holiday get-togethers and picnics and, perhaps most important of all, a listening ear to Michigan families battling a child’s life threatening illness.
