Anthony Polcari started Polcaris Coffee in 1932. The coffee shop was a dream of his since he came over from Italy at the age of twenty. Working as a pocket-maker at a local tailors shop, Mr. Polcari saved up to open his own coffee store on Salem St. in 1932. Polcaris Coffee was a family owned business. Mr. Polcaris wife Rose and children (Ralph, Anthony and Marie) all worked in the store, helping their father achieve his dream. Ralph soon took over the store from his father. Ralph did not have a son or daughter to work in the business with him. For a guy that didnt have any children, Ralph created a family. Polcaris Coffee was his family and livelihood. Place my order on Monday; on Wednesday I have a package at my door (in florida) with 5 pounds of fantastic coffee waiting for me. Family owned customer service that you cant beat: They mixed up my order once with another address and sent me 6 pounds of entirely the wrong coffee. To make it right they asked if I could use what they had sent. I said of course; Ill be happy to try these flavors. They said keep it and we will ship the correct order immediatelyno charge. I love this place. Its the North End in the nutshell. Homey, friendly locals with high quality general store goods. Their coffee is amazing and so is the tea. They sell spices and olive good and other random goods. This place is the best. Imported spices and endless unique cooking necessities. Not to mention the most extensive coffee bean selection in the neighborhood, and its not even close. The owner Bobby makes you feel welcome and is super friendly. The customer service and product quality here is top notch. Great coffee beans, great service, and great price. I paid a little over 5 bucks for a half pound of fresh ground coffee. After having one too many awful cups made from a bag of Dunkins from the grocery store I couldnt resist the promise of actually good coffee. I didnt hang out long enough to learn anything about the store, but the beans are definitely fresh from the roaster.
