Oqaab is Afghanistan’s first digital terrestrial television service. The service is branded “Oqaab” (meaning “eagle” in Dari), and will allow viewers to watch television with clear, crisp picture and sound quality, free from the static disruptions, and poor quality, of the existing analogue television transmissions. Oqaab is broadcasting currently 70 TV channels Free-to-Air in the digital standard DVB-T2. Additionally, DVB-T2 format allows for the ability to transmit broadcasts in full high-definition (HD) quality. With a multi-million dollar investment in infrastructure and personnel, Oqaab launched its service in Kabul, to be followed shortly by subsequent service launches in 20 provincial capitals within the next three years. Oqaab is a service offered by Afghanistan Broadcasting System (ABS).
