OpenStack provides a software package to deploy and operate a generic cloud platform. During the last two cycles NFV became part of the Community's roadmap to ensure that the telecom use cases are taken into account. Features like SR-IOV support, OVS with DPDK and core pinning are parts to provide the avenue for telecom applications with heavy processing and real-time requirements to migrate into a cloud environment. The journey has just started and we are working together with the OpenStack Community to make the platform suitable for VNFs during their transformation period. In this talk we will describe the requirements of a typical telco application and show the challenges with the migration by highlighting the design best practices along with the shortcomings we are facing. In addition the presentation will also provide details about an ongoing feature development in OpenStack to finalize the volume multi-attach feature in Nova and Cinder.
